TRAIN KILN: 108 c.f.
The train and soda kilns share a shed, concrete pad and chimney. These kilns were built during the summer of 2019 and fired together later that fall. The train kiln was built as a smaller, more time conservative alternative to the larger anagama I built first. I was drawn to the elevated firebox and the cube-like ware chamber that a train kiln provided when deciding on what to build. It has proven to be much faster and easier to load and extremely efficient to fire. The front stacks are loaded with raw and slipped ware and rely on natural ash glaze while the back two stacks are filled mostly with glazed ware.
